Essential Oils 101

What IS an Essential Oil??

Essential Oils are the aromatic, volatile liquids distilled from plants.  The oil can be obtained from the seeds, roots, or entire shrub, flower, leaf, or tree!  They date back as far as Ancient Egypt!  In the Bible, there are at least 188 references to the use of essential oils or the plants from which they are derived!

 

How do we use them??

  1. Inhalation!  My favorite way to do this is with my diffuser!  You can also simply put a drop in your palm, rub your hands together, cup them over your nose and inhale! Whether I’m using Lavender to prepare for a restful night’s sleep or Purification to make my home smell amazing, diffusing essential oils is an absolute must for our family!
  2. Topically!  This simply means applying the oil to a desired location on your body!  Stress Away is wonderful to apply to your neck and shoulders to help unwind after a long day!  Frankincense is great for the appearance of your skin! I love using my oils for so many reasons!
  3. Ingestion!  Young Living has the Vitality line of oils which are labeled as a dietary supplement!  One of my favorites is Lemon Vitality!  I love a few drops in a glass of water or to enhance the flavor my Lemonade!  A few drops of Peppermint Vitality in your brownie batter is delicious, too, by the way!! 🙂
